In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to create a shortcut that allows you to customize the timer duration. By following these steps, you can easily set a timer for any duration you need, not just the fixed minutes.
1. Create a New Shortcut.
- Open the Shortcuts app.
- Tap the “+” button in the top right corner to create a new shortcut.
- Tap “Add Action.”
2. Set Up Input Prompt.
- In the action list, type “Request” to find the Request Input action.
- Select the first “Request Input” action.
- Enter the prompt text you want, such as “Timer Duration.”
- In the “Request Content” field, select “Number,” as we need a time input.
3. Set Variable.
- Tap “Set Variable” action.
- Tap the variable name field and enter a name, such as “x.”
- Set “Provided Input” as the variable “x.”
4. Start Timer.
- Tap “Search Apps and Actions.”
- Type “Timer” to find relevant timer actions.
- Select the “Start Timer” action.
- In the “Duration” field, tap “Select Variable” and choose variable “x.”
5. Test and Run.
- Tap the triangle button in the bottom right corner to run the shortcut.
- In the pop-up dialog, enter the timer duration, for example, “10,” and tap “Done.”
- You’ll see a new 10-minute timer has started running.
6. Save and Use the Shortcut.
- Tap “Done” to save the shortcut.
- You can long-press the shortcut icon, choose “Rename” to change the name, for example, to “Custom Timer.”
- Long-press the shortcut icon, choose “Share,” then select “Add to Home Screen” to add it to your home screen.
7. Quick Access.
- You can drag the shortcut to the Dock for quick access.
- Tap the shortcut icon on the home screen, enter the desired time, and tap “Done” to start a new timer.
